- Duration Of Pregnancy Pregnancy
Lasts an average of 266 days from the time of conception. Dated from the beginning of the last menstrual period, it lasts an average of 280 days or 9 months plus 9 days. The 280th day of pregnancy, the approximate date of delivery, is called the estimated date of confinement. Only about five percent of spontaneous deliveries actually take place on the estimated date of confinement, & only about sixty percent occur within five days of it. A baby is not regarded as premature unless it is born more than four weeks before estimated date of confinement, & healthy babies have been delivered as late as 110 days after estimated date of confinement. A simple shortcut for determining the date that the baby is due is to add seven days to the date when the woman's last menstrual period began and then count back three months. - Early and Late Pregnancies
The youngest girl known to have given birth was a peruvian who born a 6,5 pound "3 kg" baby when she was five years and seven months old. The baby was delivered surgically, by cesarean section.
